California Secretary of State Alex Padilla called in to Café Con Leche on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. He ran his first political campaign when he was 25 years old. He was born in Los Angeles and his parents are from Mexico. Padilla grew up in the community of Pacoima in Los Angeles. He earned a degree in mechanical engineer from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. We discussed his responsibilities as State Secretary. He told us about his trip to Colorado to investigate the voting participation in Colorado. This state is one of the Nation Leaders in getting people out to vote. In addition to voting by mail, Colorado citizens can choose to utilize ballot drop off boxes, drive though drop off stations, and voting centers to cast their ballot. The Colorado model provide voters the flexibility to vote when and where it is more convenient. He also told us he is working with State Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) to advance a new Motor Voter law.
